Blood, sweat, and tears story submissions

Blood, Sweat, and Tears is a compilation project, bringing together stories about the pain, love, and beauty of being in a female body on the trail.  

SUBMISSION DEADLINE : August 20, 2023

Stories can include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, trail-running, cross-country skiing, or other trail based sports. The story should be centered around (but does not need to take place exclusively on) the trail experience. Stories should be more than just what happened, but what it meant to you or what you learned from the experience. 

The book will include 3 distinct sections:
Blood -- stories of menstruation: the good, the bad, and the funny.
Sweat -- stories of physical struggle, keep in mind the focus on the realities of being in a female body.
Tears -- stories about crying tears of joy, sadness, frustration, full on emotional meltdown. 

Write and submit a 1000-6000 word story which falls into one of the above categories

If selected, you will:
1. Sign exclusive publication rights (for one year from date of publication) to Rugged Outdoorswoman, LLC. 
2. Work with editor, Christine Reed, through two rounds of edits to polish story.
3. Submit an outdoorsy headshot and answer a short survey from which your author bio will be constructed. 
4. Receive payment for your story -- payment of $200 for you story will be issued once a fully-edited final version has been submitted, plus the rights to purchase books at wholesale cost (40% off cover price) in unlimited quantities for the first 2 years from publication date. 

If you have multiple stories, please submit each individually.
